Customs and import-export regulation form an essential part of the legal framework governing the movement of goods across borders. We advise businesses on customs, excise and import-export policy matters and represent clients in related regulatory proceedings.

Our practice includes customs classification, valuation, civil and criminal penalties, confiscation and forfeiture, together with export-control issues involving classification and licensing. These matters can have significant commercial consequences for importers, exporters, manufacturers and businesses engaged in international trade.

We assist clients in responding to regulatory proceedings and in preparing the legal and factual position required for hearings and other proceedings. Our experience includes representation before the Commissioners of Customs and Central Excise and the Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT), formerly the Customs, Excise and Gold (Control) Appellate Tribunal.

Our approach is to analyse the underlying transaction, the applicable regulatory framework and the issues raised by the relevant authority, and to develop a clear legal and factual response appropriate to the proceeding.
